It was a second victory for SILVER STATE’s Itza Lock on Thursday when the juvenile won at Gulfstream Park by an easy 5 ¾ lengths.
Going off as the favorite in the 5 ½ furlong synthetic race, Itza Lock settled just behind the leader when racing alongside another horse down the backstretch. As the field reached the turn, he angled to the outside of the leader and quickly confronted that one.
The leader didn’t have much left to hold off the determined Itza Lock, who steadily pulled away from him going into the stretch. Never asked for his best, Itza Lock breezed to a 5 ¾ length win to take his record to three top three finishes in five starts.
Trained by Jose D’Angelo for Fugget About It Racing Stables, Itza Lock’s record also includes a fourth in the Hollywood Beach S., where he missed hitting the board by only a neck.
The gelding was bred by Forever Spring Farm out of Broken Vow mare Celtic Vow. That three-time winner is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Fahan Mura and multiple stakes performer Scottish Symphony.
The family also includes champion Sweet Catomine and Grade 1 winners Pirate’s Revenge and Life Is Sweet among others.
SILVER STATE is the sire of 10 winners with two stakes performers and a stakes winner to his name as well.
