SILVER STATE Set for Big First Week at Keeneland September

Buyers will have plenty of opportunities to buy yearlings from SILVER STATE’s first crop during this year’s Keeneland September Sale with 74 cataloged at the sale.

Sixteen of those come during the first three books, starting with Hip 231 offered by Paramount Sales.

The colt bred by Vincent Colbert out of Special Treat is a half-brother to the Grade 1 winning Chocolate Gelato, who was a $165,000 yearling herself. It’s no surprise his winning dam has been a successful broodmare, she is a granddaughter of the multiple graded stakes winning Daydreaming.

In addition to winning seven races herself, Daydreaming produced the Grade 1 winner Imagining and two other stakes performers with two of her daughters also producing stakes performers.

SILVER STATE’s Hip 411 out of BLAME’S stakes winning daughter Firsthand Report comes into the sales ring with a stakes update. That came courtesy of his half-brother E J Won The Cup, who registered a second stakes victory in the St. Louis Derby after the catalog was released.

Consigned by Claiborne Farm and bred by Hoolie Racing Stable, the colt is also a half-brother to RUNHAPPY’s stakes winner Somebody’s Problem among the three winners from three to race out of their dam. Each of the colt’s first four dams have produced at least one stakes winner with his stakes placed granddam Kinsey a half-sister to three stakes winners out of Raspberry Eggcream. That mare is also the granddam of Grade 2 placed Sole Impact and two other stakes performers from her four stakes producing daughters.

SILVER STATE’s other third session horse is Hip 714 from the Elm Tree Farm consignment.

Bred by Warran Harang, the colt is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner Becky’s Joker from two to race out of Elusive Quality mare Becky’s Best. Unraced herself, Becky’s Best is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Vertical Oak and the stakes placed duo of Payne and Root Cause. Root Cause also gave the colt an update at Saratoga when she won an Allowance on July 19 going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

Beau Lane sends a SILVER STATE filly through the ring during the second session of Book 2 as Hip 1005.

Bred by Beau Lane, the filly is a half-sister to two winners from two to race out of the City Zip mare Susay Sixinthecity. This page is full of blacktype with Susay Sixinthecity’s stakes winning half-sister the dam of Grade 1 winner Perfect Alibi and Grade 2-placed Noble Thought. Other sisters produced Grade 3 winner Right On Cue and multiple stakes winner Happy Mesa with eight stakes horses named under the yearling’s first two dams.

Each of Susay Sixinthecity’s first seven dams have produced at least one stakes performer with those runners including Grade 1 winners Missed The Storm, Chris Evert, and Two Lea.

Out of a half-sister to the Grade 2 winning Arrest Me Red comes the Bluewater Sales-consigned Hip 1281.

A February-born foal, the colt is a half-brother to two winners from two to race with both his siblings winning this year. Out of the Midnight Lute mare Midnightrendezvous, Hip 1281 received an update in July when Arrest Me Red added a second in the Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Sprint to his extensive resume. That runner isn’t the only stakes winning sibling for Midnightrendezvous, whose dam also produced the stakes winner Hidden Treat. This is a stacked page throughout with Grade 1 winners Spun Sugar and Daaher. In all, eight stakes winners and two other stakes performers are named here.

The Virginia Derby (G3) provided an update for Hip 1434 consigned by Gainesway with multiple other stakes performers also giving him updates after the catalog was released.

Out of Time To Tap, a full sister to champion Untapable, Hip 1434 is a half-brother to Virginia Derby runner-up Dimatric, who also was second in the Texas Derby. The colt’s dam also produced Pennsylvania Derby (G1) second Dreamlike and multiple stakes placed Backflash among her four winners from four to race.

Untapable is joined by Grade 1 winner Paddy O’Prado as Grade 1 winners produced by Grade 2 winner Fun House, who has turned into an elite broodmare. Producing two stakes winners herself, Fun House’s daughter is the dam of recent Governor’s Cup winner Unload with other daughters producing Grade 2 winner Red Route One, Grade 3 winner Majestic Eagle, and stakes winner Red Run.

Coming in the final session of Book 3 are five SILVER STATE yearlings, including the Taylor Made Sales offered Hip 1840.

Out of five-time winner Tanasi, the colt is a half-brother to one winners from one to race produced by the mare. Tanasi is a half-sister to stakes winner Choctaw Ridge and to the four-time winner Seeking the Silver. Seeking The Silver did even better in the breeding shed than on the track with her nine winners including the dual Grade 1 winning duo of Paulassilverlining and Dads Cap in addition to stakes placed Liza Too. Seeking the Silver is also the granddam of the stakes winners Artorius, Long Weekend, and Miss Interpret among others.

The Keeneland September Yearling Sale kicks off on Monday, September 9 and runs through September 21.
