It was a second stakes victory for RUNHAPPY’s Grand Ave Girl on Saturday when the mare took out the Wintergreen Stakes at Turfway Park.
Racing over a mile on the synthetic surface, Grand Ave Girl was the first out of the gate and within a few strides had multiple lengths on the field as she settled into a loose hold by Luan Machando. While her lead was cut into in the stretch, Grand Ave Girl had a big enough advantage that it wasn’t a serious worry with the 5-year-old winning by 1 ¾ lengths in the end.
Trained by Kenny McPeek for Dixiana Farms, the SF Bloodstock-bred mare has a record of six wins and six other top three finishes in 16 starts with four stakes placings in six starts at that level.
Grand Ave Girl was a $300,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase in 2019 out of the Grade 3-placed One More. That mare is a half-sister to stakes placed Big Red Rocket and Korean champion Dynamic Dash with all four dams on Grand Ave Girl’s page producing stakes performers.
RUNHAPPY is the sire of two stakes winners and three stakes performers this year – those two stakes winners putting him near the top of the leaderboard on the General Sire list.
