Preakness (G1) Another Showcase of BLAME’s Talent

A rising star in the broodmare sire ranks, it’s no surprise BLAME daughters are in high demand at the sales. His prowess as a sire of producers is on full display in the Preakness S. (G1) with two runners out of his daughters set to line up in Saturday’s race.

Those runners will be breaking from adjoining gates at Laurel Park with Bull by the Horns drawing the eight hole and Iron Honor the nine. Iron Honor also has the distinction of being the morning line favorite in the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Trained by Chad Brown, the lightly raced Iron Honor has won two of his three races, including a win in February’s Gotham S. (G3) with only one horse within seven lengths of him at the finish. Iron Honor is out of BLAME’s two-time winner Orencia.

BLAME grandson Bull By The Horns comes into the race after a win in the Rushaway S. in his last start.

That colt’s dam No Sweat was an accomplished runner for BLAME, winning twice and placing in two stakes before selling for $300,000 in 2018. No Sweat has produced three winners from three to race overall. Those three winners are three of 252 winners from 372 runners out of BLAME mares with 36 winning stakes and an exciting 15% earning blacktype.

Winners out of his daughters include eight Grade 1 winners, led by champion Forte and this year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) runner So Happy. BLAME has already scored some Triple Crown success with Forte finishing second in the 2023 Belmont S. (G1) in a season that also saw him win the Florida Derby (G1).

It’s set to be a big weekend for BLAME as both a sire and broodmare sire with the stallion also the sire of Gallorette S. (G3) runner Ribaltagaia as well. The day before the Preakness, Bull By The Horns’ WAR FRONT half-brother is also set to run in a Laurel Allowance.

In 2026 alone, BLAME is the broodmare sire of six stakes winners and 10 stakes performers with seven stakes winners coming in three different countries – including graded stakes winners in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

The 2026 Preakness is scheduled to run at 7:01PM ET on Saturday at Laurel Park.
