Pair of $250,000 Colts Kick Off SILVER STATE’s Keeneland September

The first yearlings by SILVER STATE were popular during the first two book of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale this week, led by a pair of $250,000 colts.

Red Wings purchased the first SILVER STATE through the ring during the second day of selling when the Paramount Sales consignee went for the $250,000 tag. Out of Special Treat, the colt is a half-brother to the Grade 1 winning Chocolate Gelato.

Special Treat is a granddaughter of the multiple graded stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Daydreaming, who was also a successful broodmare. The dam of six winners, her runners include Grade 1 winer Imagining and the stakes placed duo of Reflecting and Browse. Two of her daughters also produced stakes performers. A seven-time winner, Daydreaming is a full sister to the Grade 1 winning Girolamo as well.

Centennial Farms went to $250,000 to purchase a colt offered by Claiborne Farm out of Firsthand Report early in the third session.

A BLAME daughter, Firsthand Report was a multiple stakes winner who has produced two stakes winners from her three winners overall. That group includes RUNHAPPY’s stakes winning Somebody’s Problems and E J Won The Cup. Already the winner of the Texas Derby and third in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), E J Won The Cup won the St. Louis Derby after the catalog was released for his second career stakes victory.

Firsthand Report is out of the stakes placed Kinsey, who is one of four stakes performers out of Raspberry Eggcream. That mare’s other foals include the Grade 3 winning duo of Electrify and Rothko in addition to the stakes placed Cream Only, who produced multiple Grade 2-placed Sole Impact.

Legion Bloodstock signed for a $325,000 WAR FRONT colt on behalf of Hoolie Racing early in the sale.

Consigned by Indian Creek, the colt is the second out of the Speightstown mare Dark Lightning. Placed on the track, Dark Lightning is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Killer Graces and Grade 2 winner Chocolate Ride among the three stakes performers out of Heatherdoesntbluff. Killer Graces has also been a successful broodmare as the dam of Grade 1 winner Killer Ability and stakes placed Killer Presence among her five winners.

This page also includes Grade 1 winner There Goes Harvard and champion Hakeem among others.

The Keeneland September Sale continues through September 21 with sessions starting at 10am daily.
