MASTERY Two-Year-Olds Set to Shine at OBS

The in-demand MASTERY is giving buyers another chance to purchase members of his high-quality first crop next month with his first 2-year-olds selling at OBS’s March Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale.

Represented by eight offerings, every one of MASTERY’s 2-year-olds at OBS is out of a stakes performer, stakes producer, or a half-sibling to a stakes performer.

The stallion’s first through the ring is Hip 134 from Niall Brennan Stables out of the stakes-placed Our Jenny B. The January-born filly hails from the family of Grade 1 winners Overanalyze and Meadow Breeze in addition to Grade I-placed Illusoria and Majesto.

A great-granddaughter of Grade 1 winner Dream Deal is another one of MASTERY’s offerings as Hip 155. Consigned by Jesse Hoppel’s Coastal Equine, the filly’s granddam is a stakes producing half-sister to Grade I winner Clear Mandate. The filly also has the chance to see further updates to her page before the sale with Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) winner and current Kentucky Derby (G1) hopeful Spielberg among the graded stakes winners on her page.

From the family of multiple Grade 1 winner My Flag comes her granddaughter, Hip 173, from Wavertree Stables. A half-sister to two winners out of My Flag’s daughter Raise The Flag, the filly’s family includes Champion 2-Year-Old Storm Flag Flying and WAR FRONT’s stakes winning-and multiple graded stakes placed Breaking The Rules. The filly has already seen multiple updates under her first three dams in 2021 with Performer winning the Fred W. Hooper (G3) in late January, Nayefah finishing second in the UAE Oaks (G3), and Title Ready winning the Louisiana Stakes (G3) in the past month.

Ciaran Dunne of Wavertree has high hopes on the two MASTERY fillies he sends out (HIP 173 & HIP 378), reported by The TDN: “The MASTERYs are beautiful horses. Really, really good-moving horses…they are very impressive and they look like they will be two-turn horses.”

Late in the sale, a colt out of Exit Three goes through the ring as Hip 483. Consigned by L.G. as agent, the MASTERY son is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner and multiple graded stakes placed Untrapped. Exit Three is a granddaughter of top broodmare Yarn, whose foals include multiple Group 1 winner Minardi, Grade 2 winner and successful sire Tale of the Cat, stakes winner and successful broodmare Spunoutacontrol, and champion Johannesburg’s dam Myth.

MASTERY’s final offering through the ring comes from the family of his own studmate CATHOLIC BOY. Selling through the Eddie Woods consignment as Hip 513, the March-born colt is a half-brother to the stakes placed Discovered. Their dam Gasp is a half-sister to stakes winner and stakes producer Return to Paradise and CATHOLIC BOY’s dam Song of Bernadette among others with those horses out of the Grade 3-placed Discovered.

The OBS March Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale kicks off on March 11 with the three-day long Under Tack Show. The 2-year-olds get their chance to shine in the ring on March 16 and 17, starting at 11:00 a.m. ET each day.
