2020 is starting out well for Claiborne stallion First Samurai. With eleven winners since January 1st, the son of Giant’s Causeway is currently ranked in the top 25 stallions worldwide by number of winners.
Among those is Unholy Alliance, a black-type placed filly out of Canticle, by Unbridled’s Song; Unholy Alliance won a nice optional claimer at Gulfstream Park over 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt, defeating graded stakes winner Feedback for red-hot trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr., and e Five Racing. Unholy Alliance was bred in Kentucky by Craig Drago.
Progeny of First Samurai won over $4.9 million in 2019, with 101 winners from 176 starters. Last year, his 2-year-olds sold up to $310,000, and yearlings up to $150,000.
First Samurai stands at Claiborne Farm for $15,000.
