FIRST SAMURAI’s Samurai Charm Earns Second Stakes Victory

FIRST SAMURAI’s multiple graded stakes placed Samurai Charm earned her second stakes victory on Monday when she won the Chaves County Stakes by 4 ¾ lengths.

Going off as the heavy favorite in the six-furlong dirt race, Samurai Charm raced a length behind a dueling pair of leaders. Going wide around the far turn, she entered the battle for the lead but that battle didn’t last long.

Gamely racing away from the former leaders in the stretch, she was urged on until the end with 4 ¾ lengths between her and the field with the third placed runner 6 ½ lengths behind her.

Racing as a homebred for Kirk and Judy Robison, the Peter Miller trainee has won six of 12 starts with four other top three finishes for $268,260 in earnings. The mare’s performances include a win in the Dark Mirage Stakes, second in the Great Lady M Stakes (G2) and third in the Desert Stormer Stakes (G3).

Samurai Charm is a half-sister to stakes winners Back Seat Hero and Back Seat Roll in addition to stakes-placed Back Seat Kiss. The family also includes the champion racemare Caressing, who produced FLATTER’s champion West Coast. Others in the family include Grade 1 winner Danon Kingly and Grade 3 winner Danon Legend among others.

Samurai Charm is one of five stakes winners and nine stakes performers for FIRST SAMURAI in 2022. She is also one of 36 stakes winners and 37 graded stakes performers overall for her sire.
