FIRST SAMURAI’s Bushido stayed undefeated in two starts on Saturday when the 2-year-old won the Listed Ontario Racing Stakes in his stakes debut.
Racing over five furlongs on the Woodbine turf, he jumped out of the gate first and was never challenged when opening a few lengths on the field. The race favorite had four lengths in midstretch, which was more than enough to easily win by 2 ¾ lengths at the line.
The victory came a month after the Bushido Syndicate representative won his debut by an easy 5 ¼ lengths for trainer Darwin Banach.
Bushido is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Burma Road. That mare is one of four stakes performers for Shawgatny alongside Grade 3 winner Motor City, multiple stakes winner and graded stakes placed Satulagi, and stakes winner Winter Book.
Burma Road is also a half-sister to the dam of Grade 3 winner Rich Mommy, who is also the granddam of multiple stakes winner Rowdy Yates.
Sitting 33rd among all North American and European sires by lifetime earnings with over $53 million, FIRST SAMURAI is the sire of 36 stakes winners and 72 stakes performers, led by three Grade 1 winners.
