CONQUEST ARCHANGEL Drives Past the Leaders to Win Keeneland Maiden Special Weight

Having finished runner-up in two of three starts and making her first start since August, CONQUEST ARCHANGEL pulled away late to win this six-furlong Maiden Special Weight by 1 3/4 lengths. Breaking from the outside post in an 11-horse field, the 3-year-old filly by BLAME raced just behind the pace no more than three lengths off the lead. Swinging six wide around the turn, CONQUEST ARCHANGEL was bumped hard near the top of the stretch but recovered and drove past the leaders late and won going away. Bred in Kentucky by River Bend Farm out of the PULPIT mare Hot Attraction, the $350,000 Keeneland 2014 April 2YO grad was purchased out of the sale by current owners Ernie Semersky and Dory Newell’s Conquest Stable. She was the second highest priced filly of the sale working a swift :09 3/5, the second quickest time in the Under Tack Preview. In her debut last June at Churchill, CONQUEST ARCHANGEL finished second to eventual Champion 2-Year-Old filly Take Charge Brandi. In her second career start at Del Mar, she finished second to eventual Santa Anita Oaks-G1 runner-up Luminance.
