ARCH Leads the Way the First Two Days of Keeneland January

In the first session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, a mare and a yearling filly, both by ARCH, each topped their respective categories. SUMMER SOLO, hip 259, a Grade 1-placed mare in foal  to Ghostzapper brought a final bid of $700,000 from Virginia Kraft Payson of Payson Stud. The highest priced horse of the session, SUMMER SOLO was bred by the late Sarah J. Leigh and was part of the dispersal of her estate. Hip 230, a yearling filly also bred by Leigh and part of the estate dispersal, brought a final bid of $450,000, again from Virginia Kraft Payson. The May 9th foal out of the unraced Seeking the Gold mare, Seeking Atlantis, was the highest priced yearling filly of the session.

The second session was topped by a mare in foal to ARCH that brought $500,000. Roan Inish, hip 258, a 9-year-old stakes-winning mare by Elusive Quality out of two-time Canadian Champion Inish Glora, was purchased by Evelyn Benoit’s Star Guitar, Inc. A Robert J. Costigan homebred who was trained by his daughter Carolyn, Roan Inish was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales on behalf of Costigan who is in the process of selling all his horses.
