It has been an excellent start to his second crop for RUNHAPPY with two more winners added to his juvenile win total over the weekend.
Only a day after RUNHAPPY’s Runup romped at Pimlico on Friday, Fifth Anniversary did the same at Woodbine on Saturday.
Racing over 5 ½ furlongs, the James McIngvale homebred Runup had stumbled out of the gate at Pimlico but was quickly gathered back up.
Going straight for the lead, she extended the margin at throughout the running and wasn’t to be caught. In the end, she broke her maiden by an eased down 6 ¼ lengths.
Going half a furlong farther at Woodbine over the All Weather surface on Saturday, the Racing Canada-owned Fifth Anniversary didn’t put in as dramatic a start. She raced behind the leader in the early stages after breaking first and happily raced in a stalking position.
The filly took command inside the final two furlongs and it was easy sailing from there with a three length victory at the line for the Ricky Griffith trainee.
RUNHAPPY also saw 3-year-old daughter Gypsy Touch break her maiden by three quarters of a length at Ellis Park on Saturday going six furlongs in her third start. That filly is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Contested.
In all, RUNHAPPY has 30 winners in 2021, better than second crop sires such as Nyquist and Laoban. Of his 30 winners, six are juveniles led by 11 ½ length Astoria Stakes winner Happy Soul.
