Two Stakes Winners Over the Weekend for FLATTER

CABANA won her second consecutive stakes, and third race in a row from four starts this year after taking Arlington’s Mike Spellman Memorial H. by 1 1/4 lengths. The 4-year-old filly by FLATTER battled with another on the front end for the first six furlongs of this 1 1/16-mile turf event. Disposing of that one going into the far turn, she was challenged again by a newcomer but eventually won that battle in the late stages to earn the victory. CABANA was coming out of a win in the $100,000 Mari Hulman George S. at Indiana Grand which was run on a sloppy sealed track. She also won an allowance earlier this year at Churchill. Bred by Russell L. Reineman Stables out of the El Prado (IRE) mare Sobresaliente, CABANA is trained by Donnie K. Von Hemel for owners Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch.

NEEDMORE FLATTERY won her 11th career stakes and pushed her bankroll to $478,370 after taking the Vivacious H. by 3 3/4 lengths. This was the 4-year-old filly’s first stakes victory on turf. She stalked the pace in this 1 1/16-mile event at Belterra, eventually took command in the stretch and proved no match for her 11 rivals. The Bruce Ryan & Blazing Meadows Farm homebred trained by Timothy Hamm won four consecutive stakes as a 2-year-old and won six additional stakes last year. She has won at distances from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/8 miles.
