Making her second start of the year, the Stuart Janney homebred ONUS left the competition in her wake as she rolled to an eight-length victory in a one mile Maiden Special Weight on the turf at Laurel. In a field of 14 against older horses, the 3-year-old filly from the first crop of BLAME broke well from post 11 to race outside around the first turn less than four lengths off the lead. Stalking the pace down the backstretch, the Shug McGaughey trainee moved up around the far turn, took command just past the top of the stretch and powered away from the field to her final margin of victory. In her only two starts last year, she finished on the board at Saratoga and Belmont, both efforts on dirt. Out of the Forestry mare Silviculture, ONUS’ second dam is Meghan’s Joy who also produced for Janney the graded stakes winners Ironicus, winner of the Longines Dixie S.-G2 on May 16th, Norumbega, winner of the 2014 Brooklyn Inv. S.-G2, Hunting, and Quiet Harbor, as well as stakes winner Seal Cove and Graded placed Minister’s Joy.
