Seven-Figure Mares Lead Claiborne Connected Horses at Fasig-Tipton

BLAME’s Queen Caroline was a hit at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale when Gavin O’Connor went to $3 million to purchase the mare on behalf of John Stewart.

Selling in foal to Flightline, Queen Caroline proved to be a top producer from her first foal as the dam of last year’s Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Forte.  She is also the dam of an unraced Uncle Mo colt named Dr. Park.

During her 20 race career, Queen Caroline won five stakes and placed in four others for $401,608 in earnings with 12 top three finishes overall. She is also a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Queen Teuta and multiple stakes placed K P Slickem. This is also the family of champion Forklore and Japanese Triple Crown winner Contrail among others.

The $3 million was the seventh most expensive price of any horse at the sale and highest price of an in-foal mare.

Stolen Holiday was the only offering by WAR FRONT at the sale but that was all he needed to register a seven-figure result when Alpha Delta Stables purchased the mare for $2.1 million.

Offered by Taylor Made in foal to Into Mischief on a February 21 cover, Stolen Holiday was a multiple graded stakes winner on the track before visiting Into Mischief this year. She is one of four stakes winners out of the Group 2 winner Silk and Scarlet, who also produced Grade 1 winners Eishin Apollon, Master of Hounds, and Minorette. The mare’s juvenile also won after the catalog was released to take her to five wins from seven to race.

Silk and Scarlet is one of two stakes winners out of her own dam with a non-stakes performing half-sister producing Group 1 winner Second Step.

As a covering sire, WAR FRONT saw Hoodooland sell for $700,000 to Green Lantern Stables and Patrick Masson from Taylor Made while carrying to him for her first foal on a March 5 cover. A winner herself, Hoodooland is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Salty and stakes placed Salty As Can Be.

RUNHAPPY’S Joyful Cadence was a $1.15 million purchase by Parks Investments from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment half-way through the sale.

Bred to Flightline for her first foal, Joyful Cadence finished in the top three in 14 of 16 starts with that resume including the Saylorville Stakes and a third in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2). The mare is one of two stakes winners and four winners out of Arabian Song with the group led by Grade 1 winner Country Grammer.

The first three dams on the page have produced 11 stakes performers with all but four of them winning at least one stakes. Among them are Grade 1 winners Obligatory and Etoile Montante and Grade 2 winner Starformer.

All three dams on the page have produced at least one stakes performer with two of the three dams having stakes producing daughters as well.
