ORB’s Mrs. Orb put a five race runner-up streak in stakes races behind her on Sunday with a victory in the La Verdad Stakes at Aqueduct. The victory was her sixth win in 23 starts and pushed her over $400,000 in earnings.
Racing over seven furlongs, Mrs. Orb was the second half of a tightly packed field and entered the stretch widest of all. Entering a battle with race favorite Sharp Starr in the final furlong, Mrs. Orb stuck her head in front in the final sixteenth and started pulling away to win by a length at the line.
“She’s a hard-trying filly,” said jockey Dylan Davis. “I’m just happy that I could get to win with her again. If that’s her last race, that’s very nice and Mike has done a good job with her throughout her career. I’m just happy to be aboard her and get the job done today.”
Owned by Ruggeri Stable, Richard Coburn, Script R Farm, and Michael Miceli, Mrs. Orb has finished in the top three 17 times in her 23 starts.
A granddaughter of Grade 3 winner Michigan Bluff, Mrs. Orb is also from the family of Turkish champion Hakeem, Grade 1 winner Killer Graces, and multiple graded stakes winner Chocolate Ride.
Mrs. Orb is catalogued as Hip 363 at the upcoming Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.
