FLATTER had another week of impressive juvenile showings over the last few days, kicked off by Kent Spellman and Madaket Stables’ Patty H’s 9 ¼ maiden victory at Gulfstream Park on Thursday.
Breaking strongly, the Brad Cox trainee took the lead almost immediately under Tyler Gaffalione and had it well in hand throughout. The filly extended her lead at every call of the six furlong dirt race and picked up the pace when asked by her jockey as they entered the stretch.
Knowing they had the race win secured, Gaffalione wrapped up on the filly in the final furlong to let her cruise home well ahead of the rest of the field.
Bred by Ridley Farm, Patty H was a $125,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearlings Sale purchase last year by Cromwell Bloodstock from Indian Creek. A half-sister to stakes placed Valentine Wish and Qatari Gold among her four winning siblings, Patty H finds stakes success throughout her page with her dam a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and stakes producer Carolyn’s Cat and out of Grade 3 winner People’s Princess.
That mare is a half-sister to two other stakes winners, including the Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Meadow Flight and stakes winning, Grade 1-placed North Lake Jane.
Less than 24 hours later at Jebel Ali, FLATTER’s race favorite Mouheeb led home a Claiborne sired exacta when he won his debut by 2 ¾ lengths over BLAME’s debut runner Hurry Up.
Racing over six furlongs on the dirt, the Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum-owned Mouheeb was just a step behind the leader in the early stages. The colt drew even half-way through the race down the straight course and took over the lead inside the final 2 ½ furlongs.
With Tom Marquand aboard, the Nicholas Bachalard-trained Mouheeb steadily pulled away from there with Hurry Up the only rival within 4 ¼ lengths of the winner in the end.
Bred by Charles T Matses, Mouheeb is another promising winner for the stakes winning Shananies Song. The mare is the dam of four winners from six to race, including FLATTER’s Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Favorable Outcome and his stakes winning, Grade 2-placed half-sister Bellamentary.
Completing FLATTER’s successful weekend, 2-year-old Afwan finished third in a Maiden Special Weight at Fair Grounds by only 1 ¼ lengths. That colt has never finished worse than third in his three career starts. FLATTER’s broodmare sire prowess was also on display Saturday night when grandson Hush Of A Storm broke his maiden by 5 ½ lengths at Turfway Park over one mile.
