$485,000 BLAME Juvenile In Demand, Tops OBS June

It was another sale that sawa juvenile by BLAME in demand when his colt out of Soul Spirit brought $485,000 at the OBS June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale from Clay Scherer.

Offered by Wavertree Stables, the colt named Periculum has been a popular offering in the sales ring each time he’s been offered. Originally offered at the 2021 Keeneland November Sale by Denali Stud for breeder Don Alberto, he was purchased by Sewanne Bloodstock for $190,000. He returned to Keeneland the following September and was a $210,000 buy for Ciaran Dunne before coming to this sale.

He is the first foal out of a winning Quality Road half-sister to WAR FRONT’s Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Journey Home. That mare is the dam of the stakes placed Ticker Tape Home. The duo comes out of the dual Grade 1 placed Soul Search, who herself is a half-sister to the stakes winning Reform Act. Another one of Soul Search is the dam of BLAME’s Grade 1 winner Nadal, making this a proven cross.

“He was a big, strong colt who worked fast, did everything like you want to see here and he acted fresh every day,” Scherer told Thoroughbred Daily News.

CNA, Co. was the buyer of a $150,000 BLAME colt offered by Navas Equine earlier in the sale.

That colt is a half-brother to two winners out of a full sister to Grade 3 winner Stratford Hall and half-sister to stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Armistice Day. Another one of her siblings is the dam of Grade 3 winner We The People with all four horses out of Grade 1 winner Harmony Lodge.

DEMARCHELIER (GB) has been a popular first crop sire at this year’s 2-year-old sales and this one was no different.

His top priced 2-year-old brought $140,000, the third most expensive juvenile by any freshman sire in the sale. Purchased by 30 Year Farm and Team Hanley, the colt offered by Woodside Ranch breezed in :10.1 at the Under Tack Show and is a half-brother to the multiple stakes placed Circle Back Jack from his dam’s only runner.

His unraced dam is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 3 placed The Reds and Grade 2 placed Zee Drop from her Grade 2 placed dam’s six winners from six to race. That mare is also a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Wickedly Perfect, who produced Grade 2 winner Hartley, and to stakes winner Wicked Mizz.

DEMARCHELIER (GB) was also the sire of the eighth most expensive 2-year-old by a freshman after Joseph Brocklebank went to $95,000 for a filly on behalf of Form Bloodstock.

Offered by Kinsman Farm, the filly is out of the Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Quiet Royal who is also the dam of Group 3 winner Quiet Force. Quiet Royal is a full sister to Group 3 winner Acago, the dam of Grade 3 winner Xenobio with another one of Quiet Royal’s sibling being the Group 3 winner Sandwaki.

DEMARCHELIER’s (GB) juveniles averaged $60,807 for 13 sold this year with a median over eight-times his stud fee. The group was topped by a $230,000 filly and this sale’s $140,000 colt.
