For the second time in two days, WAR OF WILL registered a maiden winner when Will Then won a Woodbine Maiden Special Weight.
A homebred for George Strawbridge making her second start, the filly raced widest of all into the first turn of the one-mile race before finding a closer path to the rail during the backstretch run. Mounting her challenge coming into the stretch, she found the lead with just over a furlong left to run.
Pulling away from much of the field, the filly had to deal with a fast-closing Tiz Her Money, but that rival wasn’t a serious threat. In the end, Will Then won by 1 ¼ lengths to become the 11th winner for her sire.
Trained by Jonathan Thomas, she is out of the three-time winning Remember Then. That mare’s five runners are all winners and include the stakes winner born Dapper.
Remember Then is out of multiple graded stakes winner Owsley, who also produced Remember Then’s stakes winning full sister Senada and stakes placed half-brothers Arthur’s Tale and War Hoot.
This was the fourth winner of October for the classic winning son of WAR FRONT, who has also sired three stakes performers.
