It was another Grade 2 victory for WAR FRONT’s Masteroffoxhounds on Saturday when the consistent runner was a winner of the John Henry Turf Championship Stakes (G2).
The Rockingham Ranch representative stumbled out of the gate but immediately recovered to duel outside dual Grade 1 winner Breakpoint before that one grudgingly gave up the battle. Masteroffoxhounds kept a length between him and the field for much of the 1 ¼ mile turf race and came into the final furlong with a three-length advantage.
A late run from multiple horses cut the 5-year-old’s lead down near the end but he prevailed by a neck in determined fashion.
“Masteroffoxhounds has been knocking on the door to a victory. We have been trying to find the right distance for him and I think we have found it today, said trainer Philip D’Amato.
Masteroffoxhounds has won four of his 19 starts with six other top three finishes for nearly $500,000 in earnings. Among those 10 top three finishes are five graded stakes performances.
Masteroffoxhounds’ stakes winning and Grade 1-placed dam Outstanding also has a 4-year-old WAR FRONT colt named Jeroboam.
