It was a new Grade 1 winner for WAR FRONT on Saturday when Full Count Felicia won the E.P. Taylor Stakes (G1) in her Grade 1 debut at Woodbine.
She was the first out of the gate in the he 1 ¼ mile turf race nd quickly opened a few lengths on the field. The WAR FRONT daughter wasn’t ready to risk losing the lead to anyone, opening up over 10 lengths on the field down the Woodbine backstretch with no one attempting to stick with her.
Coming into the far turn, Full Count Felicia had 20 lengths on the field and she continued to fly down the stretch. The rest of the field attempted to run her down in the final furlong, but all they could do was cut into her margin with the WAR FRONT daughter winning by 3 1/2 lengths in the end.
This is the second straight victory for the 5-year-old, who is trained by Kevin Attard for Gold Square. Winning the Canadian S. (G2) last out, she has four stakes victories overall and has won seven of her 18 starts with three other top three finishes.
Full Count Felicia is one of three winners from four to race out of the stakes placed Galileo mare Claire de Lune. That mare is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Cerulean Sky and Moonstone with Cerulean Sky also producing Group 2 winner Honolulu and Moonstone producing five stakes winners.
In all there are 33 stakes performers under Full Count Felicia’s first two dams, with the mare one of three Grade 1 winners in that group.
