War Front Ranked #1 World’s Leading Juvenile Sire

War Front’s sire power soared during the month of July and has continued to gain momentum into August. The son of Danzig is currently ranked as the world’s leading sire of 2-year-olds. He has earned international acclaim the last two years with major winners across the globe, and in July his runners had 17 victories to their credit.

Among those winners are seven graded stakes horses, and four graded stakes victors: American Patriot, War Flag, Roly Poly and War Decree.
War Front’s most recent accomplishments as a sire include impressive victories by the aforementioned War Decree, and other juvenile offspring With Honors, Whitecliffsofdover, and Leo Minor, all during a one-week span.
The biggest victor of the group, War Decree, captured the G2 Qatar Vintage Stakes at Goodwood July 26. Previously successful at the seven-furlong distance in his debut at Leopardstown June 3, War Decree was urged to the front by jockey Ryan Moore in the final furlong of the Vintage Stakes.
Owned by Coolmore, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt justified his 6-4 favored status when he drew away under hand riding and held off Godolphin pair Thunder Snow and Boynton for the victory. War Decree came into the race off a second-place effort to Boynton in the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket July 9.

Last year the Vintage Stakes was won by eventual 2,000 Guineas victor Galileo Gold, and if War Decree’s form continues, he could be a viable contender for next season’s Classics

Coolmore said War Decree would point next for either the G2 Champagne Stakes or National Stakes at Sandown Park. The owners indicated that given War Decree’s pedigree, a trip to the United States is also a future possibility.

War Decree is the second foal out of the Street Cry mare Royal Decree and is a half brother to stakes-placed runner Noble Quality. His second dam is the dual grade I winning Royal Applause mare Ticker Tape.

War Front’s other juvenile offspring With Honors won a maiden event at Del Mar July 29, while Whitecliffsofdover and Leo Minor prevailed in respective maiden and allowance races at Naas Racecourse in Ireland Aug. 1.

War Front has now sired a total of 238 winners and 47 black-type victors from 482 foals of racing age. He stands for $200,000 at Claiborne.
