Coming off a win in Saratoga’s Funny Cide S. in his second and last start, UPSTART closed through the stretch to finish runner-up in the one mile, $500,000 Champagne S.-G1 at Belmont. The 2-year-old son of FLATTER was nearly 13 lengths in front of the third place finisher. In his Funny Cide win, UPSTART earned a 95 Beyer. That win followed his 5 1/4-length debut win also at Saratoga in which he earned an 85 Beyer. He has two wins and a second in three starts and earnings of $263,800.
