Stakes Placed SILVER STATE Filly Romps at Keeneland

SILVER STATE’s Miss Call visited the winner’s circle on April 3 when she romped home by 6 ¾ lengths at Keeneland.

Racing over seven furlongs, Miss Call broke well but was happy to let a pack of horses race ahead of her out of the chute. She commandeered a rail spot soon after to put her just behind the leader down the backstretch with another horse keeping on the pressure to that one’s side.

Brian Hernandez Jr. piloted his mount away from the rail as they turned into the stretch and there was little left to do. He gave her a few taps with the whip before sitting on her and letting her gallop home for a 6 ¾ length victory.

Trained by Kenny McPeek for M5 Racing Stable, Steve Dervenis, and Magdalena Racing, Miss Call has finished in the top three in five of her nine starts, led by a third in the White Clay Creek S. for $118,412 in earnings.

The quartet of Amy Bayle, Alyse Roberts, Catherine Jennings, Robyne Theobald bred her out of Quality Road mare Lady Laura.

A two-time winner, Lady Laura is a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed In Our Time and stakes winner Important Mission. In all, Lady Laura is one of six winners from eight to race out of two-time winner Laura’s Pleasure.

The stakes form is strong in this family with Miss Call making Lady Laura a fourth-generation stakes producer. The page includes champion Christmas Friend and Grade 2 winner Withgreatpleasure among others.

The winner of the Metropolitan H. (G1), SILVER STATE registered five 100+ Beyers in his racing career.
