New 2YO Stakes Winner and 2YO Graded Stakes Horse

After a runner-up effort in the Irish Field Curragh S. two races back, THE GREAT WAR won his first stakes taking the Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Blenheim S. easily by 3 1/2 lengths. Going six furlongs on a firm course at the Curragh, the 2-year-old colt by WAR FRONT ridden by Joseph O’Brien tracked the leader in second until taking command approaching the furlong marker and drew clear to the wire. Back in May, THE GREAT WAR became a “TDN Rising Star” after a three-length tally at the Curragh, his second win in as many starts. A $1,000,000 Keeneland September 2013 Yearling sales grad bred and sold by Claiborne Farm, THE GREAT WAR is out of the PULPIT mare, Guide. He races for the partnership of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, Mrs. Susan Magnier and Joseph Allen and is trained by Aidan O’Brien.

BATTLE OF MARATHON earned his first Graded black type in only his fourth start placing in the important Juddmonte Beresford S.-G2 at the Curragh. Racing one mile on a firm turf, this 2-year-old colt by WAR FRONT pressed the pace through most of the running and continued to run on to the wire. A $250,000 Keeneland November 2012 weanling purchase, BATTLE OF MARATHON captured his second start at Leopardstown with a strong run in the stretch to win by 2 3/4 lengths. Bred by Galleria Bloodstock and Rhinestone Bloodstock out of the GSW Sayedah (Ire), by Darshaan (GB), BATTLE OF MARATHON races for the partnership of Derrick Smith, Mrs. Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor and is trained by Aidan O’Brien.
