Escape Fund, a striking 3YO daughter by Claiborne’s LEA, broke her maiden impressively first time out at Saratoga on July 16th, going 6 furlongs on the dirt for trainer Michael J. Trombetta.
With Tyler Gaffalione in the irons, Escape Fund (LEA) broke well from the gate and was coaxed along on the inside of the pack, then went four-wide into the upper stretch. She took command at the sixteenth pole and charged forward, crossing the wire in a final time of 1:11.02.
Escape Fund was bred in Kentucky by Elise W. Kendall & Scott Kendall. The filly is out of the mare Run Lady Run (Cherokee Run). Before she landed in the hands of current owner Three Diamonds Farm, Escape Fund (LEA) brought $60,000 as a weanling at the 2017 Keeneland November Sale. She then brought $75,000 as a yearling at the 2018 Keeneland September Sale, then went on to sell for $105,000 at the 2019 OBS April 2YO in training sale.
Lea himself did not race until age 3, and broke his maiden at second asking, which came at 1 1/16-miles on the inner turf at Saratoga. From there, Lea went on to earn over $2 million, and racked up wins in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap, among several other graded stakes wins. Lea’s progeny are showing the same versatility and talent on the dirt and turf, giving us plenty to look forward to in 2020.
Lea stands at Claiborne Farm for $7,500.
