Juveniles by Young Claiborne Sires Catch Eye at OBS Spring

A WAR OF WILL colt caught the eye of Cherie DeVaux on Wednesday at the OBS Spring 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale when she went to $400,000 to acquire him from Grassroots Training and Sales.

Breezing in :10.0 last week, it was the second time through the ring for the Hermitage Farm-bred, who also sold last October. He is a half-brother to one winner from one to race out of the multiple stakes-placed Sunday Sonnet. That Any Given Saturday mare is a half-sister to the multiple graded stakes winner Pianist with their dam producing three winners overall.

Three of the four mares on this page have produced stakes performers with fourth dam Special Key turning into a prolific broodmare as the dam of Irish 2000 Guineas (G1) winner Prince of Birds, and the fourth dam of Group 1 winner Sudan among the 17 stakes performers named under the mare.

Second crop sire DEMARCHELIER (GB) only had one on offer at the sale but that one was highly sought after.

During a bidding war, Victory Racing Partners went to $135,000 to secure the filly offered by Majestic.

Out of the winning Indian Charlie mare Reserved Indian, the filly is a half-sister to two winners from three to race led by five-time winner Napoleon’s Empire. Under the filly’s second dam is the Grade 1-placed Puttthebabiesdown and multiple stakes placed Knockitdownhard.

This is also the family of Canadian champion Midnight Miley and eight other stakes winners with other stakes performers including Grade 1-placed Social Probation.

The leading turf sire of his generation in 2023 and 2024, DEMARCHELIER (GB) leads all second crop sires by turf winners (9) and stakes performers (2) this season.
