Hazy Command Second Winner in Three Days for MASTERY

MASTERY registered his second Fair Grounds winner of the week on Saturday when Hazy Command won a Maiden Special Weight as the race favorite.

Racing over six furlongs on the dirt, Hazy Command raced wide throughout the run when a few lengths off the leader. She was three lengths behind as they entered the final furlong but showed a strong kick to race down the two in front of her.

Hazy Command had the second place spot secured with a sixteenth to run but wasn’t content with that spot and got up just in time to win the race by a head in the end.

The Thomas Amoss trainee has steadily improved her placings in her last three starts, finishing third in November and second last month. She was a $75,000 yearling purchase by Lauren Carlisle and races for Late Night Stables.

Bred by Belvedere Farm, the MASTERY daughter is out of the winning Justasprinkle. That mare has produced six winners from seven to race with her runners led by multiple stakes winning Justalittlesmoke and Portales.

There are stakes performers under four of her first five dams with only her granddam – who had one runner from two foals – not joining that club.

An undefeated racehorse, MASTERY now has three winners this year, the sixth most of any second-crop sire.
