It was a third stakes winner of December for WAR FRONT on New Year’s Eve when Stolen Holiday won her second career graded stakes in the Suwannee River Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.
The 5-year-old mare was content to run near the back of the field in the one-mile turf race with much of the field tightly packed in front of her. She had to deal with a hard check around the first turn but quickly regained her stride to take up her position and wait for instruction from Junior Alvarado.
Stolen Holiday rolled down the middle of the track down the stretch to take control with just over a sixteenth left to run and pulled away to win by a length.
A $750,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase in 2018, Stolen Holiday has won five of 12 starts with three other on the board finishes for $320,671 in earnings. Trained by Shug McGaughey from Annette Allen, she was bred by Orpendale in Kentucky.
Stolen Holiday is one of four graded stakes winners out of Group 2 winner Silk and Scarlet, who also produced Grade 1 winners Eishin Apollon, Master of Hounds, and Minorette.
The sire of 109 stakes winners overall, WAR FRONT has sired 13 stakes winners and 23 stakes performers in 2022 alone.
