Fort Washington Stakes Winner 105 for WAR FRONT

Claiborne born and raised WAR FRONT son Fort Washington became his sire’s 105th stakes winner on Sunday when the colt won the Tale of the Cat Stakes at Monmouth Park for breeders Joseph Allen and Peter Brant.

A multiple stakes placed runner before Sunday, the Shug McGaughey trainee raced near the back of the pack with only two horses beat for the first half o the 1 1/16 mile turf race. He steadily moved up from there and wasn’t afraid to go wide in the stretch to engage the leader in battle.

Showing a strong turn of foot when asked, Fort Washington went past the rival to win by half a length in the end with the margin growing every stride.

The 3-year-old has now finished on the board in five of six starts for nearly $155,000 in earnings.

Fort Washington is out of the Group 3-placed Azaella, who was also fourth in the Prix de Diane (G1). This is also the family of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Android and stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Asti among others.

Fort Washington is the fifth stakes winner from WAR FRONT’s current 3-year-old crop with the stallion firing at a 28.89% strike rate of stakes performers to 3-year-old runners in 2022.
