FIRST SAMURAI’S JUSTIN PHILLIP TAKES G2 WOODY STEPHENS

JUSTIN PHILLIP, a 3-year-old colt by FIRST SAMURAI, won the G2 Woody Stephens S. on the Belmont undercard in impressive fashion. The colt vied for the lead the start of the 7 furlong race and broke free to the front where he remained for the entire race to score by over three lengths. JUSTIN PHILLIP had previously placed in both the G2 Jerome S. and the G3 Bay Shore S. at Aqueduct.

JUSTIN PHILLIP is the fourth stakes winner for sophomore sire FIRST SAMURAI, and the second graded stakes winner. Bred in Kentucky by Oakbrook Farm, JUSTIN PHILLIP was a $400,000 yearling at Keeneland September. The colt is owned by Zayat Stables LLC and trained by Steve Asmussen.
