FIRST SAMURAI: Leading sire of 2-year-olds amongst KY Sires

Claiborne Farm’s FIRST SAMURAI, the proven son of Giant’s Causeway, was as precocious as they come as a two-year-old, having won his first four career starts, which included the G1 Hopeful Stakes and the G1 Champagne Stakes.

Over the last month, FIRST SAMURAI’s 2YO crop has taken the first step down their sire’s successful path with six maiden special weight winners, including five on debut from June 19th to July 23rd. FIRST SAMURAI is currently the leading sire of 2-year-old winners amongst Kentucky sires, tied with the influential Into Mischief.

The latest win for FIRST SAMURAI came from Plum Ali, a 2YO filly who broke her maiden first time out on July 23rd at Saratoga for owners Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Bethlehem Stables. Conditioned by trainer Christophe Clement, she won by open lengths to complete the 8.5 furlong test in 1:44.49. Bred in Kentucky by Stone Farm, Plum Ali’s debut performance marks the first winner for her dam Skipping (Stroll).

Corey, a filly by FIRST SAMURAI, broke her maiden impressively on debut at Indiana Grand on July 21st. Bred in Florida by Rustlewood Farm, Inc., this daughter of FIRST SAMURAI is out of the Holy Bull mare, Gospel Girl, and is half to graded stakes winner Happy Farm. She brought $150,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale and is owned by Madaket Stables, Wonder Stables and Robert V. LaPenta.

Another winning daughter of FIRST SAMURAI, Sweet Souper Sweet, broke her maiden on debut at Woodbine on June 27th. In the 60 days leading up to her first career start, the filly by FIRST SAMURAI out of the mare Our Candy Striper (Candy Ride) turned in three bullet workouts at Fair Hill for trainer Michael J. Trombetta. She was bred and currently owned by Live Oak Stud.

Onna Musha, a 2YO filly by Claiborne’s FIRST SAMURAI, won on debut at Lone Star Park on June 24th in a four and one half furlong maiden special on dirt. Bred in Texas by Larry S. Huntsinger, Onna Musha is out of the Mineshaft mare Platinum Blue.

Another notable 2YO winning daughter of FIRST SAMURAI is living up to her name. Winning Romance, out of Lipstick Junky who is by Claiborne’s FLATTER, won on debut at Evangeline on June 19th for owner/breeder Allied Racing Stable, LLC.

Claiborne Farm’s FIRST SAMURAI is the sire of million dollar earners including promising young stallion LEA, JUSTIN PHILLIP, LAST GUNFIGHTER, and EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE. A 2x Grade 1 winner at 2, FIRST SAMURAI has passed on his precocity to his offspring, as well as his size and strength.
