EARTH BECOMES ORB’S FIRST WINNER

In his career debut, the cleverly named Earth became the first winner for 2013 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb by taking a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park. Showing a great deal of determination, Earth rallied in the stretch to get up by a neck to win at first asking.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the dark bay colt was sent off as the second choice in a field of seven. He sat third in the early stages of the race before closing strongly in the final furlong to get the victory.

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners purchased Earth for $190,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky select yearling sale. Bred by Calumet Farm, Earth is the first foal out of his dam, Mullins Bay.

Orb, who is being represented by his first runners this year, stands at Claiborne for a fee of $25,000.
