Racing 1 1/16 miles on a track labeled fast, LAST GUNFIGHTER sat in second down the backstretch just a length off the leader. Continuing to race just outside that one until deep stretch, he seized the lead and edged away for 1/2-length victory. In his previous start, LAST GUNFIGHTER scored a comfortable 4 1/2-length victory in the Raymond Earl S., going a mile over a sloppy track at Aqueduct. He is a homebred for John D.
