Grade I-winning Claiborne stallion Data Link is represented by several solid juveniles going into the OBS March 2-year-olds in training sale.
Of the seven Data Link offspring consigned to the March 14-15 auction, two of them turned in especially eye-catching performances during the under tack show.
Hip 466 worked an eighth of a mile in a sizzling :10 flat. The chestnut colt is out of the Indian Charlie mare Croon, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Midnight Ballet (by Midnight Lute) and stakes-placed runner Moon Buzz (by Malibu Moon). They are out of the stakes-winning Unbridled’s Song mare Buzz Song.
Hip 237, a chestnut colt out of the winning Old Trieste mare Surf City Susie, covered a quarter-mile in a swift :21 1/5. Surf City, the dam of Surf City Susie, is a half sister to G2 winner Boone’s Mill and also hails from the female family of Canadian multiple stakes winner La Rocca (by Toccet).
Data Link, a son of other Claiborne stallion War Front, scored his big wins in the G1 Makers 46 Mile S. and G2 Monmouth S. Data Link’s first crop of yearlings sold for up to $200,000, nearly five times his stud fee. He stands for $7,500 at Claiborne.
