A filly by Claiborne stallion Flatter turned in one of the four fastest works at the 1/8-mile distance at the opening session of the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s 2017 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training March 9.
Hip No. 81, a flashy gray or roan filly, stopped the timer in a swift :9 4/5. Consigned by de Meric Sales, agent, the daughter of Flatter is out of the Sky Classic mare Penny Marie, a stakes winner who also placed in the G3 Las Cienegas Handicap and G3 Wilshire Handicap.
Penny Marie is a half sister to other graded stakes-placed runner Centrique (by Malibu Moon). She also hails from the female family of Kentucky Oaks winner Sun and Snow and multi-millionaire Honey Ryder.
Flatter is currently ranked #2 by GSW and #3 by GSH. He is represented by four stakes horses so far in 2017, including Flatlined (G2) and Favorable Outcome (G2). Flatter stands for $35,000 at Claiborne.
The OBS under tack show continues at 8 a.m. March 10, with Hips 226-450 scheduled to breeze. The third session of the under tack show is set for 8 a.m. March 11 (hips 451-677).
The two-session sale will be March 14-15, with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m. The first session will be for hips 1-338. The second session will be hips 339-677.
