Claiborne sire FLATTER continues to assert his merits as one of the nation’s top value sires. Standing for $30,000, the son of A.P. Indy ranks among the elite company of Curlin, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Kitten’s Joy, and Medaglia d’Oro with 2 Grade 1 winners and 4 Grade 1 stakes horses in 2016.
On August 6th, Flatter was represented by two remarkable performances at Saratoga’s prestigious race meet. PAOLA QUEEN overcame odds of 55-1 and proved much the best in the Grade 1 Test Stakes. It was the 2nd win for the 3-year-old filly, who finished second in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) earlier this year. Prior to her triumph in the Test, Paola Queen started in both the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Acorn (G1).
Bred in Kentucky by CFP Thoroughbreds LLC, Paola Queen is owned by Grupo Seven C Stable and trained by Gustavo Delgado. Her career earnings are now $427,490.
On that same day, UPSTART turned in another game performance in the Whitney Stakes (G1). Already a multiple Graded Stakes winner, the 4-year-old son of FLATTER ran 3rd behind Horse of the Year candidate Frosted. Upstart now has career earning over $1.7 million with victories in the Holy Bull (G2), Razorback H. (G3), and Funny Cide Stakes, and placed in the Champagne (G1), Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), Fountain of Youth (G2), Florida Derby (G1), Haskell (G1), and Metropolitan H. (G1).
