Kobe’s Back (Flatter) Powers Home to Win G2 San Carlos Stakes

Kobe’s Back posted a thrilling come-from-behind victory on March 12 to win the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at Santa Anita. The win was the second Graded Stakes score of 2016 for the son of Claiborne sire Flatter, who captured the Palos Verdes (G2) last out.

“I knew at the half-mile pole that they were all in deep water and that’s a pretty good feeling,” commented jockey Gary Stevens.

This was the fourth Graded Stakes win for Kobe’s Back, who was bred in Kentucky by Joanne R. Mummert.

Flatter (A.P. Indy) is off to a strong start in 2016.  The talented TARIS won the La Canada (G2) earlier this year, giving Flatter three Graded Stakes wins, in addition to a pair of runner-up finishes in the Grade 2 Sham (Let’s Meet in Rio), and the Grade 2 Swale (Economic Model).
