It was a runaway winner for CATHOLIC BOY in Puerto Rico on Monday when El Catolico won a Maiden Special Weight in his second start.
Breaking first out of the gate in the six-furlong dirt race, El Catolico immediately put his head in front as others tried to stick with him. As the field raced into the turn, the race favorite easily put the rest of the field behind him with El Catolico just given a few taps in the stretch as he pulled away to a 5 ½ length win.
Bred by Eric Betancourt for Denian Stable, El Catolico was bred in Kentucky by KatieRich Farms out of the stakes winning Parade of Roses.
The colt is the first foal out of the half-sister to the champion British Idiom and multiple stakes winner Royal Prince.
This is the sixth winner for CATHOLIC BOY, who is the sire of two stakes performers in his first crop.
