WAR FRONT’s War Bomber Strikes in King Edwards Stakes (G2)

WAR FRONT’s War Bomber returned to the winner’s circle in a big way on Saturday when the 5-year-old won the King Edwards Stakes (G2) for his second career graded stakes victory.

Second last out in the Connaught Cup Stakes (G2), War Bomber was ready to go one better when stretching out an extra furlong to a mile for this turf race. He made sure never to get too far back and tracked Treason in second all the way around the track as that one set a steady pace a few lengths in front.

A few lengths behind the leader in the turn, he went to the outside of that horse as they swung into the stretch and found himself in the four path as he closed in. His challenge began just outside the final furlong pole and while Treason wasn’t ready to give in, he got his head in front and kept it there.

The battle lasted to the wire but War Bomber had a full neck in front by the finish line with the third placed runner 2 ½ lengths behind the top two in the end.

Trained by Norman McKnight for Bruno Schickedanz, War Bomber has won seven of 19 starts with four other top three finishes for nearly $400,000 in earnings.

The Coolmore-bred is a full brother to WAR FRONT’s Group 1 winning Lancaster Bomber and a half-brother to the three-time Group 1 winner Excelebration in addition to multiple group winner Mull of Killough and multiple stakes winner Shivalik Showers.

WAR FRONT has eight stakes winners in 2023, led by five graded stakes winners with 16 stakes performers overall.
