WAR FRONT’s Grade 3-winning Liguria added a second stakes win to her record on Saturday with a victory in the Listed Wild Applause Stakes for Alpha Delta Stables.
Making her fifth career start, the WAR FRONT 3-year-old was the first one out of the gate in the one-mile turf race before Irad Ortiz Jr. asked her to settle near the back of the tightly compact field. Ortiz kept the filly relaxed throughout the middle stages of the race before piloting her around other horses in the turn and entering the stretch seven wide.
In the final furlong, Liguria made it clear she wasn’t leaving without the win and took command just outside the final sixteenth to win by three quarters of a length.
A $275,00 Keeneland September Yearling purchase by Steve Young from the Gainesway consignment, the Chad Brown trainee has now won three of her five starts for nearly $220,000 in earnings.
She is bred by Tada Nobutaka out of the winning Woodman mare Lerici. That mare is also the dam of WAR FRONT’s 2-time Grade 1 winning Avenge and the stakes winning Lira in addition to WAR FRONT’s Grade 3 placed Pistoletto.
There are Grade 1 winners throughout the page with others under Liguria’s first three dams including three-time Grade 1 winner Mashaallah and Grade 1 winners Folk Art and Union Strike in addition to Japanese champion Eishin Champ.
WAR FRONT is the sire of five stakes winners and 11 stakes performers in 2023 with six of those stakes performers coming at the graded level.
