Stuart S. Janney III’s homebred DATA LINK, a multiple graded stakes winner by top Claiborne stallion War Front, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Claiborne Farm in 2014, according to farm representative Bernie Sams.
During his highly-successful 2012 campaign, DATA LINK ran down the competition to win the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile S. at Keeneland. In addition, he set a course record winning the
1 1/8-mile Monmouth S.-G2, placed in both the 1 1/16-mile Bernard Baruch H.-G2 at Saratoga and the Canadian Turf S.-G3 at Gulfstream, then closed out the year with a 2 1/4-length romp in the Citation H.-G2 at Hollywood Park. Trained by Claude R. McGaughey III,DATA LINK started this season with a bang. He won the mile-long Canadian Turf S.-G3 in his first start and then finished second in the 2013 Maker’s 46 Mile-G1, coming within a length of reigning Horse-of-the-Year Wise Dan. Also a winner at both two and three, DATA LINK retires with eight wins, two seconds and a third for earnings of $831,335.
“We are pleased to have DATA LINK at Claiborne,” said Sams. “He was a very good, very consistent racehorse. He has an attractive pedigree, and it has no Mr. Prospector until the fifth generation. I think he will be a good outcross for a lot of breeders.”
Foaled and raised at Claiborne for owner/breeder Janney, DATA LINK is out of Database, a stakes-winning daughter of Known Fact. Database’s full sister is stakes winner Vespers, who is the dam of Donn H.-G1 winner Hymn Book. DATA LINK is by top sire War Front, a leading sire with 15 current-year stakes winners. They include two-time Grade 1 winner Declaration of War, multiple GSW and millionaire Departing, and Graded stakes-winning juveniles War Command and Bashart.
