Two races after WAR FRONT’s son Sumter finished third in the Listed Stormy Liberal Stakes, daughter Liguria became his 60th graded stakes winner with a victory in the Jimmy Durante Stakes (G3).
Shipping to California from New York to make her stakes debut, the filly was a midpack runner for much of the turf race over one mile. Racing wide nearly every step of the way, Liguria started to make her move around the turn as she flew past the field.
With about a furlong left to run, she chased down the pacesetter and took over as the race favorite to win by 2 ¼ lengths for her second win in three starts.
“We always liked this filly. She came to Del Mar in good shape; training really well. She just did her thing today. I told him (Flavien Prat) my boss said just warm her up really good and put her in a good position and go from there,” said assistant trainer Jose Hernandez.
Trained by Chad Brown for Alpha Delta Stables, she is a full sister to WAR FRONT’s dual Grade 1 winner Avenge and stakes placed Pistoletto in addition to being a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Lira. This is also the family of Grade 1 winners Mashaallah, Union Strike Hard Not to Love and Canadian champion Wonder Gadot among others.
WAR FRONT is the sire of 109 stakes winners and 60 graded stakes winners with 36 of those graded stakes winners winning at least one graded stakes as a juvenile. Only one of WAR FRONT’s crops doesn’t have a juvenile graded stakes winner but that crop did have a juvenile stakes winner.
