WAR FRONT’s War Bomber became his sire’s newest stakes winner when the 3-year-old won the Listed Toronto Cup Stakes for a third consecutive victory.
Making his stakes debut over a mile on Woodbine’s turf, War Bomber tucked into a spot on the rail to race in fourth.
Shaun Bridgmohan had to check the Norman McKnight trainee as running got tight around the turn and War Bomber looked for a hole. That hole came in the final furlong and War Bomber quickly entered a battle for the lead.
That battle didn’t last long as War Bomber pulled away to win by two lengths at the line for his third win in five starts.
“I had a beautiful trip,” Bridgmohan told Daily Racing Form. “There was a little bit of speed in there, and I opted to follow. I tried to find him clear daylight, and once I did and I pointed him to a hole, he just went. He’s a pretty talented horse, and when he took off, he really took off.”
Bred by Coolmore and owned by Bruno Schickedanz, War Bomber is a full brother to WAR FRONT’s Irish champion Lancaster Bomber and a half-brother to German, French, and British champion Excelebration.
The gelding’s third dam is dual Group 1 winner Sarah Siddons, who is also the third dam of G1 Irish St Leger winner Wicklow Brave and G1 Prix Vermeille winner Leggera.
Sun Shower also has a 4-year-old by WAR FRONT named War Leader, who has won two races in 2021.
