It was a second win in his last three starts for RUNHAPPY’s Happymac at Churchill Downs on Sunday with a 1 ½ length Churchill Downs Allowance victory.
The Steve Asmussen trainee broke faster than anyone and raced wide down the Churchill backstretch as two others joined him up front. As they entered the turn, Ricardo Santana Jr asked the colt to put his neck in front and he quickly fulfilled the request.
Entering the stretch with a short lead, Happymac started to pull away from there. The colt was pushed to the line by Santana as he recorded a 1 ½ length win.
Finishing in the top two in five of his six career starts, Happymac is owned by William and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Madaket Stables, and Spendthrift Farm. Bred by Charles Muth, Patrick Murphy, and Cindy Olsen, the colt was a $125,000 weanling and $360,000 yearling. Showing the high regard he was held in by his connections after his early training, he RNAed for $800,000 as a 2-year-old.
Happymac was one of two impressive winners for RUNHAPPY in the past week with 2-year-old Corn Pop winning a Maiden Special Weight by 8 ¼ lengths. That juvenile colt has hit the board in all three of his starts.
RUNHAPPY’s second crop juveniles are proving to be a strong group of individuals with his eight runners hitting the board in 53.85% of their races.
RUNHAPPY has had an outstanding year with the highest 2021 average earnings of any second crop sire with more than 10 runners. The stallion also sits in the top five by both 2021 stakes winners and stakes horses and sixth by number of 2021 winners.
