WAR FRONT’s Summering was a determined winner of the Pleasant Acres Stallions Distaff Turf Stakes on Sunday afternoon to record her second career stakes victory.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the Tampa Bay Downs turf as the third choice in the race, the 5-year-old Glen Hill Farm homebred was never far from the lead. Breaking from the seconds widest post, Summering took advantage and stayed outside of the field for clear running room. A clear second down the backstretch, Jesus Castanon asked her to move up alongside the leader in the turn and the race was on.
Neither the long-time leading Classy Woman or Summering were willing to give in as they stayed head-to-head the whole length of the stretch. Summering finally got her nose in front just strides from the wire to take home the victory for trainer Thomas Proctor.
A third generation homebred for Glen Hill with Proctor training both her dam and granddam as well, Summering is one of two winners for multiple graded stakes winner Wishing Gate with both by WAR FRONT.
Wishing Gate herself is out of the multiple Grade 3 winner Rich In Spirit, who is also the granddam of Grade 2-placed Bird’s Eye View.
Summering is the sixth stakes winner of 2021 for WAR FRONT with the stallion’s 2021 performers led by Group 1 winner Homesman.
