RUNHAPPY ended Churchill Downs’ 2-year-old card on a high note Saturday night when Runway Magic was an impressive winner of a Maiden Special Weight to close out the card. The colt became his sire’s sixth winner with the victory.
Racing over seven furlongs on the main track, the colt raced in midpack a few paths off the rail. As the field entered the turn, Runway Magic showed a strong turn of foot to make a huge move and join the leaders. He toyed with the only horse who stuck with him at the top of the stretch before pulling away in the final furlong to win by 3 ¾ lengths.
Trained by Rusty Arnold for owner-breeders Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm and Bruce Lunsford, the colt is a half-brother to stakes winner King of The Court. His unraced dam Divine Escapade herself is a daughter of Grade 1 winner Madcap Escapade, making Divine Escape a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 winner Mi Sueno. That mare is also a stakes producer with her daughter Mi Suerte winning a Group 3 in Japan. Madcap Escapade herself is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Dubai Escapade.
Divine Escapade is also the dam of a yearling filly by BLAME.
