Fresh off a victory in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 18th, Battleground, a two-year-old son of WAR FRONT, displayed patience and professionalism in the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (G2) on July 28th at Goodwood, winning the seven-furlong contest by two-lengths.
Trapped three-wide in sixth place, Battleground made smooth headway on the bridle in the straight to challenge at the quarter-mile marker. With Ryan Moore in the irons, Battleground was driven out once seizing control soon after to deny Superlative S. (G2) runner-up Devious Company (IRE).
This marks the son of WAR FRONT’s second win of three career starts in the silks of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Mrs. John Magnier. Bred in Kentucky by Orpendale, Chelston & Wynatt, Battleground is out of the Galileo (IRE) mare Found (IRE) – a cross that has produced more than 15% stakes winners, including Grade 1 winners Roly Poly, Fog of War and champion U S Navy Flag.
Regally bred, Battleground is the first foal out of the globe-trotting multiple Grade 1 winner Found (IRE), whose victories include the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) and Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).
