WAR FRONT‘s Battleground breaks his maiden in style with a stakes victory on the world’s stage at Royal Ascot. As the post time favorite in the Chesham Stakes for 2-year-olds, Battleground tracked midpack in the seven furlong test, emerging with less than two furlongs out, and finished strong to win by over two lengths.
Making his first start only ten days ago for conditioner Aiden O’Brien, Ryan Moore piloted the son of WAR FRONT to his first victory, and first stakes victory, in the silks of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Mrs. John Magnier. Bred in Kentucky by Orpendale, Chelston & Wynatt, Battleground is out of the Galileo (IRE) mare Found (IRE) – a cross that has produced more than 15% stakes winners, including Grade 1 winners Roly Poly, Fog of War and champion U S Navy Flag.
Regally bred, Battleground is the first foal out of the globe-trotting multiple Grade 1 winner Found (IRE), whose victories include the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) and Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).
