Smiling Rosie Second Winner in 24 Hours for SILVER STATE

It was a second winner in two days for SILVER STATE on Saturday when Smiling Rosie broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park.

Starting her year going 1 1/16 miles on the turf, Smiling Rosie settled in midpack about five lengths behind the leaders when three wide going into the first turn. Down the backstretch, she moved a bit closer before sliding between two horses around the far turn.

Targeting the leaders in the stretch, she had the lead in the final sixteenth and held tough to win by a nose in a three-way photo finish.

Trained by Mark Hennig for Avi Bros Stables, she was bred by Parkway Farm.

Smiling Rosie is the fourth winner from four to race out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Last Play. That mare is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Marsh Side and to the dam of stakes placed Attendant out of Grade 2 winner Colonial Play.

Colonial Play is one of four stakes winners out of Meteor Stage and a full sister to Grade 1 winner Pleasant Stage and Grade 3 winner Stage Colony.

SILVER STATE’s other winner this weekend is the multiple stakes winning El Consistente, who won his fifth straight race on Friday.
